RCB Victory Turns Tragic: 11 Dead in Bengaluru Stampede Near Chinnaswamy Stadium

Bengaluru, June 4, 2025 – What was meant to be a historic moment of joy for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fans turned into an unspeakable tragedy. A stampede broke out near the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, resulting in the death of 11 people and leaving 33 others injured, according to official sources.

Stampede Mars RCB’s First-Ever IPL Title Celebration

In celebration of RCB’s maiden IPL title win, massive crowds — estimated in lakhs — of enthusiastic fans gathered just outside the stadium. The energy and excitement quickly turned into chaos as the crowd surged forward, creating an uncontrollable stampede.

Eyewitnesses recounted distressing scenes: people screaming, falling, and getting trampled. A mound of shoes, sandals, and torn sports jerseys and merchandise littered the area, bearing silent testimony to the terror and confusion.

Casualties Reported from Multiple Hospitals

Victims were rushed to nearby hospitals. The casualty details are as follows:

  • Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital (Shivajinagar): 6 deaths confirmed

  • Vydehi Super Speciality Hospital (Mallya Road): 4 deaths out of 15 admitted

  • Manipal Hospital: 1 death reported

Additionally, 47 outpatients were treated for minor injuries, panic attacks, and trauma.

Government Announces Compensation, Orders Inquiry

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He announced an ex-gratia compensation of ₹10 lakh for the families of the deceased. A magisterial inquiry has been launched to determine the cause of the stampede and whether there were lapses in crowd control and security arrangements.

“This tragedy should not have occurred. We are committed to taking action if anyone is found guilty of negligence,” said CM Siddaramaiah after visiting the hospitals.

Free Treatment and Emergency Response Measures

The CM also directed that all injured victims be given free treatment in both public and private hospitals. Emergency response teams and medical professionals are working around the clock to ensure proper care for those affected.

As Bengaluru mourns this painful loss, questions are being raised over safety protocols and the urgent need for better crowd management during large-scale public celebrations.
